  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 cup sweet onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup shredded provolone or cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup ketchup (plus extra for topping)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Sauté onions and bell peppers in olive oil over medium heat until soft (about 5 minutes).
  3. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, sautéed veggies, breadcrumbs, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  4. Fold half of the shredded cheese into the meat mixture.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a greased loaf pan and shape into a loaf.
  6. Bake for approximately 1 hour or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  7. In the last 10 minutes of baking, top with remaining cheese and a drizzle of ketchup.
  8. Let rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing.
