- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tsp fresh thyme leaves
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until caramelized (about 15 minutes).
- In a large bowl, combine sautéed onions with heavy cream, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the potato slices followed by half of the onion mixture and half of the cheese. Repeat the layers.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20 minutes until golden brown.
