Ingredients

  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cans (28 oz each) San Marzano whole tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat until shimmering.
  2. Sauté chopped onion until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the canned tomatoes and tomato paste, breaking up the tomatoes with a wooden spoon.
  4. Season with oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and pepper; mix well.
  5. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.
  6. Taste and adjust seasonings before serving.
