Description

Cheese and Onion Rolls are a comforting blend of gooey cheese and sweet sautéed onions, all wrapped in golden-brown pastry. Perfect as a snack or appetizer!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp softened butter
  • 2 medium sweet onions, diced
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast; let sit until frothy (5-10 minutes).
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well, then add yeast mixture and butter; mix until combined.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth. Let rise in an oiled bowl covered with a damp cloth for about 1 hour.
  4. Sauté onions in butter until translucent; remove from heat and stir in cream cheese and cheddar.
  5. Punch down the dough, roll it out into a rectangle, spread the filling evenly, then roll tightly.
  6. Slice into rolls and place on greased baking sheets. Bake at 375°F for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
